A Crystalline Ode: Swarovski at the MET Gala

Over the past three years, Swarovski has illuminated the world of Haute Couture at one of fashion’s most anticipated events of the year: the MET Gala. From breathtaking wearable works of art to intricate crystal embellishments adorning some of the world’s most recognizable figures, Swarovski has transformed the red carpet into a dazzling display of craftsmanship, glamour, and innovation. But beyond the sparkle and spectacle, what makes Swarovski’s presence at the MET Gala so extraordinary?

For centuries, Swarovski has stood as one of the oldest heritage brands in the world of luxury jewelry. Its heritage began in 1895 with Daniel Swarovski. Born in Bohemia, Austria, Daniel invented the world’s first electric-powered crystal-cutting machine. This machine produced a clarity in crystal creation that had never been seen before, enabling Daniel to deliver his vision of bringing luxury to all. With precision-cut crystals, Daniel unveiled the mystique of precious jewels to many, including some of the most glamorous women in the world, providing them with a new way to shine with brilliance and luminosity.

Swarovski has often been associated with the Swan, this visual branding being intentionally selected as the swan embodies elegance, beauty, and purity—the perfect parallel to the precision and glamour of Swarovski’s cut crystals. Throughout the brand’s history, the Swan has been more than a decorative emblem; it has become a captivating symbol of the Austrian brand’s heritage, artistry, and commitment to craftsmanship.

Throughout the galas Swarovski has attended, the brand has unveiled carefully crafted and breathtaking looks, but its most notable appearance came at the 2025 MET Gala, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The evening provided the perfect canvas for Swarovski to celebrate 130 years of crystal brilliance, bringing together the House’s heritage, artistry, and innovation. At the heart of the collection was Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert’s vision, deeply rooted in the symbolism of Swarovski’s iconic House emblem: the graceful swan. Serving as the central inspiration behind the collection, the swan was transformed into a series of delicately crafted couture creations, brought to life through tens of thousands of Swarovski crystals, hundreds of hours of meticulous embroidery, and the skilled hands of artisans. Together, these elements created four unique looks that redefined the relationship between crystal artistry, luxury, and couture.

Sora Choi embraced a bold, custom blue interpretation of Swarovski’s beloved swan, embellished with an exquisite 50,000 Swarovski stones. Precious details, including crystal pearls and beads, added a touch of sophistication to her silhouette, transforming the iconic swan into a striking couture statement.

Adut Akech

Supermodel and Vogue 154 cover star Adut Akech wore a stunning sculptural two-piece ensemble. A captivating Swarovski crystal-encrusted feather collar framed her neck, embellished with 25,550 crystals that shimmered with every movement. The intricate detailing brought an ethereal quality to her look, balancing sculptural form with Swarovski’s signature brilliance.

Alex Consani

Alex Consani embodied the ethereal beauty of the Swarovski Swan through sleek silhouettes and a tailored jacket embedded with 18,400 crystals. The precision of the crystal placement highlighted the intricate craftsmanship behind the design, transforming the classic tailoring into a luminous couture creation.

Giovanna Engelbert

Swarovski’s Creative Director, Giovanna Engelbert, brought the collection to life on the blue carpet with confidence, elegance, and class. Wearing a green three-piece pantsuit adorned with more than 200,000 crystals and Swarovski pearls, the ensemble was tailored to create an intricate organza feather pattern. Engelbert appeared almost like a sculpture, embodying the artistry, precision, and brilliance at the heart of Swarovski’s vision.
