Word on the street is that there’s a new creative director at Dior, and his name? Jonathon Anderson.

The former creative director at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson, has been given the control of Dior menswear, womenswear, and couture collections. This new control of all three sections of Dior fashion marks a historical change in the brand, since the last sole creative director was Christian Dior himself in 1957. Dior has been known for elegant designs including poofy skirts and sharp jacket silhouettes; however, with Anderson’s new leadership, a new look for the brand will be present in the 2025 collections.

With his gender-fluid clothing designs, bold colors, and unique fabrics, the Irish fashion designer is sure to bring a unique twist to the classic image of Dior. When taking a look at the opinions of netizens, it is clear that a positive feeling surrounds the new and upcoming debut of Jonathon Anderson. In addition, his recognition as Designer of the Year at The Fashion Awards both in 2023 and in 2024 speaks volumes about the artistic value that Anderson has been able to bring into his works. He is best known for the Loewe Spring-Summer 2022 women’s collection that was filled with sequin dresses, unusual silhouettes, metal chest plates, and balloon pants. Despite his unique style, he includes a feeling of casualty, which seems to make a prominent appearance in most of his designs.

Looking at his past work at Loewe, two of the most iconic designs of Anderson include the Puzzle bag along with the Comic Lacquered pumps. The Puzzle bag, first seen ten years ago on the Loewe Spring-Summer women’s runway, has become a staple in Loewe fashion with its unique origami-inspired shape and design that can be worn in many ways with many different patterns. The Comic Lacquered pumps introduced in the Loewe Spring-Summer collection look like they came straight out of a cartoon, instantly making a fashion statement when worn.

Aside from the runway, his looks have appeared at various pop culture events, worn by various celebrities. At the Met Gala, celebrities including Ariana Grande and Taylor Russell wore dresses that perfectly encapsulated the “Garden of Time” theme. Creativity presents itself when just looking at the solid and flowy materials that were blended together to create true pieces of art. As for costume designing, Anderson has had his hand in the creation of various works, including the film Challengers where he focused on including a feeling of normalcy into the styling. Additionally, during the Challengers press tour, his custom designs were worn by Zendaya with small and meticulous tennis details placed in the outfits. However, his most notable work was Rihanna’s 2023 Super Bowl halftime performance outfit, which showed off Anderson’s signature boldness with balloon pants and a metal chestplate.

As for his own company, JW Anderson, Anderson maintains sustainable and detail-oriented practices when manufacturing clothing items, paving the way for responsible fashion in the future.

The Dior Men’s Fashion show will take place at Paris Fashion Week on June 27, showcasing the exciting works of Anderson.

Ultimately, the question remains. Will Jonathon Anderson rise to the challenge or drown in the high expectations? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Farewell for now.
