Fashion with a side of fireworks

America’s 250th birthday party was celebrated joyfully across the nation this year. Whether it was playfully mixed color blocks  or personalized accessories, the flag was represented in a number of ways, materials, and patterns.  

The United States had always held fast to its western country roots, and this 4th of July served as perfect evidence. Out of all the trends that could be sighted, personalized cowboy boots were by far the most prominent. Whether it was colored leather or vibrant ribbons, each pair was more aesthetic and vibe specific than the last. The personalization gave the shoes character and introduced a whimsical element of self- expression.

On the topic of traditional western gear, plenty of bandanas also made an appearance. Worn in a variety of ways including hair bands, belts, even tops, the garment served as a perfect punch of color and a terrific additive to any 4th of July outfit. American Model Abby Champion and her husband, Patrick Schwarzenegger were sighted at the Montecito Fourth of July Parade. Both proudly sported bandanas, with Patrick even wearing his in an ascot fashion.

Consistent with the trends of the summer, linen could be spotted in every outfit. Red and white checkered linen shorts had some time in the spotlight as the gingham material incorporated the red and white of the flag almost perfectly. Often seen  with a lace trim, they served as a perfect way to feminize a bulky outfit and play with patterns.

Overall, the holiday went off with an explosion of color and patterns. A nice reprieve from the “Beigification” many took this opportunity to mix and match , adopting their own interpretation of wearing the flag. The show of symbiotic patriotism and creativity brought about a national sense of colorful unity.
