The season of cozy sweaters, flannels, and cardigans is upon us, and soon enough we’ll be packing away our crop tops and micro shorts until next June. Maybe you’ve completed your back-to-school shopping and are waiting until Black Friday for your next dose of retail therapy; but, if I may, there’s one thing that every stylish girl simply must have on her radar as the leaves turn and the air gets crisp. Yes, I’m talking about the shoe of the season: the classic brown leather boot.

I’m not talking about the black boots meant for going out to a concert or a club, but the kind that look slightly worn (maybe you found it at a thrift store), are either tan or brown or even a rustic shade of red, and looks fabulous paired with anything from skirts to jeans to dresses. The brown leather boot is fabulous, timeless, and a solid investment. If you’re looking for a new statement piece to put on your Christmas list, look no further! 

Now, this style of shoe is not to be mistaken with cowboy boots, rain boots, or combat boots. The fall boot is much more versatile, fit for the bar, a coffee run, or even Thanksgiving dinner. I wouldn’t even call them a trend, because they’ve always been in style and are definitely here to stay. What I would call a recent trend, especially amongst girls in their twenty-somethings, is The Frye Company. Not to be confused with Frye & Co. boots, Frye boots are all the rage recently. Of course our consumerist society managed to take a fall staple and turn it into a hunt for the latest status symbol, but I digress. Frye boots come in an array of colors, from mustard, to forest green, to dusty pink. No matter which poison you pick, the brand is known for producing high-quality footwear. And the prices surely reflect their top-tier materials and high-demand. Seriously, $498 for a shoe that isn’t even designer? Their marketing team needs a raise!

Now, are the Frye boots worth it? I mean, probably, but I wouldn’t know because I could never justify spending that kind of money on something that is (sorry fashion girlies) a glorified TikTok trend. Despite not having tried a pair on or even seeing them in person, I can guarantee with almost 100% certainty that you could thrift some adorable autumn boots for the same effect. Choose your investments wisely, my chic readers, and don’t break the bank over boots you will only wear for a few months out of the year.

Some other brands to look to if you’re ready to buy into this trend are Staud, Khaite, Gucci, and The Row. But many prefer the classic, reliable place to find staple pieces at an affordable price: your mom’s closet. Of course, leather boots are not the only major players this season. Sneakers, ballet flats, Mary Jane’s, clogs, and loafers are back like they never left. Boat shoes are also sneaking into popularity, with brands like Aritzia collaborating with Sperry to bring the Catholic-school-esque footwear back into the mainstream. Don’t forget fashion pumps and kitten heels for the fashionistas out on the town or looking to stand out during a business conference! Ugh, don’t you just love fall fashion?
