The Legacy of Anna Wintour

After 37 years, Anna Wintour is stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue. Known for her iconic bob and sunglasses, Wintour has been at the center of the fashion world for decades. She is notoriously hard to impress and has only given a standing ovation at a runway show seven times in her career. Wintour is known for her exclusivity as well and her power moves. She stands by her decisions, even if they are controversial, such as the viral Kim and Kanye American Vogue cover.
Wintour has used her power not just for fashion, but to create change. Under her leadership, CFDA/Vogue initiatives have raised more than 20 million dollars to fight HIV. She has also transformed The Met Gala into what it is today, having raised a record 31 million this year alone for The Met.
Wintour is also known for her eye for potential. She has helped boost the careers of Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs, as well as assisting in the comeback of John Galliano. By founding the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2003, she has raised more than 8 million dollars for emerging designers.

The icon is stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue, but will not be completely exiting all her posts. She will continue her role as Vogue’s Global Editorial Director, and as the Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast. Even though she is no longer Editor-in-Chief, Wintour will continue her involvement with most of her current responsibilities, such as The Met Gala, and through Condé Nast she will overlook the global scale of brands, with Vanity Fair, GQ, and AD being some of many.

Anna Wintour has left a legacy on the fashion world that will not ever be forgotten. She has led the trends for decades, while using her influence to promote new designers. Her work has built Vogue into the fashion empire it is today, while making herself one of the most recognizable people in the industry. But the question is, who could possibly fill her shoes?
