Euro-Summer: Travel Style In Greece
It doesn't get much more classic than the casual elegance of Euro-Summer inspired style, and nowhere is this more apparent than the towering mountains and stunning island beaches of Greece. With everything from some of the most ancient historical locations on the planet to stunning, easily instagrammable views. Greece is known for its beauty, in not only its locations but also the colors of the landscape. Some highlights you might recognize are the aqua blue of the sparkling Aegean, the emerald green of the trees blanketing towering mountains, and the vibrant magenta of flowers climbing up iconic creamy plaster-white houses.
These shades often work their way into many capsule wardrobes and trip-inspired outfits through everything from flowing white skirts to sparkly beaded shirts. Some pieces which have consistently appeared through the summer season so far are maxi skirts, especially in white, and flower claw clips. However, any fashion lover also knows how important it is to take whichever activities they have on their agenda into consideration by bringing a large range of pieces which have different lengths and fabric thickness, as variety allows you to stay cool in the scalding summer temperatures of the Aegean, cover up if you choose to visit religious historical sites, and get the perfect tan on the sandy beaches.
Bags are also a definite must for anyone travelling, especially when it’s so hot out. Dehydration is never in style, so be sure to find a cute bag to carry water bottles around. Beach totes and raffia bags are always a summer style in my book, and as long as it has enough storage space for you to carry cute sunglasses (a must to complete any summer travel outfit) or a linen shirt (a perfect cover up for any historical sites that require modesty, and look especially thematically appropriate in cream, though any color or style works well), it should be perfect. Speaking of accessories, jewelry is a definite must have for any trip, especially Greece. With tons of cute shops and vendors, jewelry is sold basically all over, though one standout spot in Athens is Pieces of JOY. Though this small shop may look similar to many others from the outside, they sell stunning Greek-made jewelry from local vendors within the shop, for relatively low prices. Shops such as this one are throughout every city if you have enough time to go looking, something I definitely recommend. Jewelry featuring the blue and white design of the evil eye is a common theme for many such designs, and basic as it may be, it is a cute look that not only fits into the color palette, but is definitely a classic for a reason.
Authentic Greek leather sandals are also a great souvenir to get, and some stores, such as Σανδαλοποιείο Sandalworkshop in Nafplio, even have workshops attached to the stores where you can see sandals being made, an interesting view into the process which goes into the creation of these must-have goods for any traveller. Definitely don’t forget your sneakers though, if you are planning on climbing up to see the Parthenon or the monasteries of Meteora.
Additionally, claw clips, especially those which are either flower shaped or gold, have also been a consistent look throughout this summer’s tourism season so far, with many travellers opting for either larger clips to hold back their hair, or smaller flower shaped clips which keep braids in place, and add a nice, colorful, touch to any outfit. However, just like with any fashion choice, it is a key step of the process for fellow stylists to put their own personal spin and style into their outfits, working in their own personal preferences in factors such as level of modesty or color tones according to their own personal color palette.
