Prints: In or Out?

As Summer 2025 started, prints were everywhere. Animal print shined and you couldn't turn the corner without seeing polka dots. But as the summer went on, minimalist outfits started to gain traction. Everyone was sporting the plain white tee and the classic denim bottoms. We’re here to ask the question: did these prints last the summer, or were they just part of the long list of fads that disappear after a short moment?

Let’s start with animal print. These bold prints are perfect for a statement, and exude cool girl energy. Since the beginning of the year, animal print has risen 43.48% on Pinterest. And at the end of July, the print reached a popularity index of 99 on pinterest after rising throughout the summer. This print is slowly rising in popularity, and I am here for it.

The next pattern we will dissect is florals. Florals are always a spring staple, but did they carry over to summer? Although last summer they were one of the trending styles, this year it wasn’t the same. Over the summer, the popularity of florals has steadily dropped, and 29.41% since the beginning of the year. So florals definitely were the pattern of the summer, so what was?

Polka dots have gone through a revitalization this year. They have been trending since the beginning of the year, but shouldn’t that mean they should start to dip in popularity soon? By the contrary, polka dots are still climbing in popularity and don't show any sign of slowing down. Since the beginning of the year, they have risen 376.19% in popularity, and are still rising steadily since the beginning of summer.

While polka dots have infiltrated every summer outfit moodboard, I’m excited to see what's next. With fall approaching, that will bring along a major change in fashion, with people switching out their flip flops for boots and their linens for suede. And with minimalistic style on the rise, is the fall of patterns imminent, or will they always be a pop of fun in everyone’s wardrobes?
