Chanel's Designer Revamp

Matthieu Blazer took over as creative director from Virginie Viard in December of 2024, and is making headlines with his recent fall/winter collection that managed to tie in Chanel’s rich history with something new and exciting.

Blazy’s new vision hopes to display contrast and storytelling. He does this especially well with his fall/winter 2026 collection that works with “function and fiction, day and night”. The suits he uses especially sit as a focal point of the collection; it's a Chanel staple but revamped with fresh silhouettes and fabric.

The accessories are being properly updated as well, like items such as the flap bag (now with metallics, two tone combinations, and transparent acrylic panels), the boy bag (slouchier and more compact to be gender fluid) and the 19 Chanel 2.55 (available in silver and rose gold, features embossed logo, leather patches, and can be lined with many new colors).

This revamp works so well because Blazer is not only focusing on the aesthetic of the brand, he’s bringing in a historical audience while working on something new and exciting. He isn’t disrespecting the old pieces but rather working with them with love. Chanel’s sales increased significantly in the past year, proving that Blazy’s vision worked. He isn’t stuck in the past and isn’t afraid of straying from Karl Lagerfield’s image.
