Coachella 2016: a blast into the past or an all-new festival look?
In a year claiming to be the next 2016, it is hard not to spot some fashion favorites remerging at Coachella this year. At this 2 weekend-long music festival in the desert, it's not just about seeing your favorite artists live; it's all about looking good while doing it. But is it true that we’ve gone back to 2016?
Although it is a fact that we’ve moved away from flower crowns, a lot of celebrities and influencers alike have brought back the resurgence of certain attire. Denim cutoffs have been big this year, with Madelyn Cline’s look feeling like it came right out of 2016. More denim shorts can be spotted on Emma Roberts, as she pairs them with a black halter top and a cow print bag.

In classic Coachella style, everyone is bringing back the boot this year. Whether it be for convenience to get through the dusty fields of the festival ground or just for fashion, almost everyone there could be spotted wearing some sort of boot. The most common were cowboy boots, while some could be seen wearing fringe boots. No matter what the outfit is, boots have the ability to tie the whole thing together, making them such a staple in the sphere of Coachella.
One of the most notable staples in celebrity attire this Coachella season was bikini tops. Olivia Rodrigo and Addison Rae can be seen on stage, both wearing the tops. Rodrigo was sporting a baby pink one with a rhinestone-covered bow in the middle, while Rae wore a hot pink latex bikini top. More than that, members of Katseye were wearing gold and pink sequin-covered bikini tops, paired with fashionable black bottoms.

Overall, it seems as if Coachella fashion has shifted away from the hippie-like look of 2016 and toward a more sophisticated look, reminiscent of the Y2K era. With this shift comes a favor in different textures, as seen in the fringe boots and sequin-studded bikini tops. However, you can’t completely escape the past, and the micro denim cutoffs and fringe ponchos are letting us know that in a sleek way.
